“The Blacksmith’s Girl” is the debut solo album from the extremely talented Sadie Jemmett. Opening with “Entirely”, this great track introduces us to this acoustic album with Sadie’s passionate vocals and quirky choice of instrument, the dulcimer, oozing folk quality. Sadie’s influences include some of the greatest folk artists of all time such as Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison and Neil Young, and this love for the genre is strongly apparent and weaved throughout this album.
The title track “Blacksmith’s Girl” features some powerful guitar strums and vocals full of emotion, igniting the beautiful story-like lyrics. The album is then balanced out with more delicate numbers like the charming “I’m Glad You’re Back”, an adorable love song that perfectly shows off the quieter beauty of Sadie’s voice. This artist has had quite a journey to arrive at this album, but aren’t we glad she did. “The Blacksmith’s Girl” would be the perfect addition to a CD collection for anyone with an interest in country, folk or just enticing lyrical music.
